Banana & Date Smoothie Recipe

I have a favorite smoothie to get in NYC, and it happens to be at my favorite falafel place (shout out to Taïm!); it’s a banana and date smoothie…and it hits the spot every time. Especially when the weather warms up, I find myself craving it.

So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and make it at home. I was thrilled to discover that it really is as simple and easy as I’d hoped, for that same great flavor.

I love the small amount of cardamom in here, I think it goes far to give flavor depth to the smoothie. If you aren’t a cardamom fan, then you could add a bit of cinnamon instead.

If you like thicker smoothies, then freeze your bananas before you make this. Another swap for a thicker/creamier smoothie is to use greek yogurt instead of almond milk.

It’s also delicious to add a spoonful of almond butter. (You know me…I love almond butter and all nut butters).

AND I also enjoy adding in a few teaspoons of chia seeds. I soak them in a bit of water for at least an hour first to make them a bit softer, then just dump them in the blender with everything else!

Here’s the basic smoothie recipe…and you can choose to adapt it with one of the aforementioned things if you’d like!

-2 ripe bananas (frozen, optional)
-1/4 cup (or 5-6) pitted dates
-juice from half a lime
-1/2 teaspoon cardamom
-2 cups almond milk
-handful of ice cubes

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender! Voila!! Enjoy 🙂
