Tandoori chicken is one of the most popular chicken recipes. Tandoori chicken gets its name from the bell shaped tandoor clay oven in which it is cooked. The main trick to get a super flavourful and tender melt in the mouth tandoori chicken kabab/ Chicken tikka is the marinating time. The more the chicken is marinated the more tastier the tandoori chicken is.

In this recipe we will make the best Indian Restaurant style grilled tandoori chicken without oven or tandoor but by using a stove top.

In this stove top Tandoori chicken/ chicken tikka recipe we will give the chicken the distinctive smoked flavor using a heated charcoal. This chicken recipe always makes its place on the dinner table in parties due to its beautiful color, mouth watering delicious taste and popularity .
Tandoori chicken is made by marinating the chicken overnight or more in yoghurt and a combination of tandoori spices or tandoori chicken masala and it is either grilled, baked , pan fried or baked in the tandoor. This recipe is ideal for all kinds of cooking / grilling methods.

Suggestions for what to serve with Tandoori chicken / chicken tikka/ grilled chicken . It can be served as a side with roti, rice , or served as starters and appetizers with other chicken dishes like chicken haryali kabab , kalmi kabab, chicken fry etc . it also goes really well with Butter Chicken , Dal fry or any other simple food served with tandoori chicken and salad .

Ingredients for the recipe ;

Chicken – 1 kg
Ginger garlic paste – 21/2 tsp.
Yoghurt – 2 tbsp
Oil- 4 tbsp and oil for frying the chicken .
Lemon juice – from 1/2 lemon
Coriander powder – 2tsp
Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder – 11/2 tsp
Garam masala powder – 1 tsp
Chaat masala – 1 tsp
Zeera powder – 112 tsp
Red chilli flakes – 1/2 tsp optional
Chicken tikka masala – 1/2 – 1 tsp optional
red color 3 pinches optional
Salt to taste

Method
Wash and clean the chicken pieces and make deep cuts on them.
Mix the marinade by combining all the spices , yoghurt , ginger garlic paste, lemon juice and oil. add a lil more oil or up to 2 tbsp of water to get the right consistency.
Coat the chicken pieces well with the tandoori chicken masala . Marinate overnight or more . Refrigerate until use .
Bring the marinated tandoori chicken to room temperature and grill, bake or fry .
Heat a piece of charcoal and place it in a foil cup or a steel bowl. pour some oil or ghee over the hot charcoal and place it along with the cooked chicken in a covered dish until the smoke dies down completely .

The Tandoori chicken / chicken tikka recipe is ready to serve along with your favorite green chutney and other accompaniments .
