Smoothies are a great breakfast item, and we sometimes make them for a quick lunch as well. This recipe is our own take on the classic βstrawberry banana smoothie,β and it has become our go-to.
A smoothie with only strawberries and bananas would lean heavy on the carbs and natural sugars, but would lack much of the good fats and proteins needed to make it a complete meal. For protein, we add in oats, yogurt and peanut butter. Yogurt is also packed with calcium and gut-healthy bacteria. Flaxseed and chia seeds are rich in fiber and omega-3βs as well as many other essential nutrients. Once blended in, the oats and chia start to expand and help to give the smoothie that perfectly thick texture. This smoothie is a powerhouse of goodness.
