These beef picadillo tacos are an easy Tex-Mex dinner made with seasoned ground beef that stays moist and flavorful. This beef picadillo is perfect for tacos, tostadas, and more, and comes together quickly on the stovetop. Simple ingredients, big flavor, and great for a quick weeknight meal.
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 jalapeño pepper, chopped
1 pound ground beef
2 vine-ripened tomatoes, chopped
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 cup dark beer (such as Modelo Negra), plus more as needed
DIRECTIONS
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and jalapeño and cook until the onion is translucent, about 4 to 5 minutes.
Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up as it browns, 6 to 8 minutes. Drain the beef, return it to the skillet, and place over medium heat.
Add the tomatoes, chili powder, and cumin. Season with salt and pepper and cook until well combined, about 4 to 5 minutes.
Pour in the beer and simmer until the sauce thickens, 15 to 20 minutes. Add more beer if needed to keep the meat moist.
Serve hot in tacos and enjoy.
