In this video I'm showing you how I used Frozen Trader Joe's Chinese food the make a delicious and easy orange chicken recipe using my Cook's Essential Air Fryer and Instant Pot. It's so good!
The orange marmalade was sent to me by Grandma Hoerner's. They send me products to try out and review every so often and I loved adding it to the orange sauce that came with this package. I never feel like there's enough sauce in the packet provided, so adding that delicious marmalade took my semi homemade dinner to the next level.
Even though Grandma Hoerner's sent me the Orange Marmalade, my opinion is still my own, and I think it's delicious. Everything else I bought with my own money. It's all stuff I cook in every week and food I buy for us to have for dinners. In fact, this video is simply me fixing our family dinner.

** The Recipe:
This is what we used to call "doctorin' up" but I think the term now is "semi homemade." Basically, you are going to take something from the store, and add your own ingredients to it to fill out the flavor. So, here's what I did.
1. Used a Mixed rice combo I get in my Harris Teeter that I cooked in my instant pot with water only on the rice setting. I find using water only with rice yields a super sticky rice, which is what we want for Chinese food.
2. I had a bag of Tempura chicken from Trader Joe's. I cooked the chicken pieces in my air fryer at 400 degrees F for 12 minutes. I spritzed the chicken lightly with peanut oil. Shake the chicken at about the 5 or 7 minute mark.
3. I put the sweet and sour sauce that came with the chicken into a sauce pan and warmed it on med low. I added about 2/3s cup orange marmalade to the sauce to make extra. I used my larger sauce pan so there was room to toss the chicken.
4. When the chicken is finished in the air fryer, toss it in the simmering sauce in the sauce pan.
5. I also cooked Vegetable Bird's Nests at 400 degrees F for 8 minutes.
6. I topped with crispy WonTon noodles.
If the rice finishes it's cook time before the other stuff is ready, just let it sit there on slow release. Release the steam valve when you are ready to plate your dish.

Welcome to My Handmade Lifestyle! I'm Patty and I go by Pattymac Knits everywhere online.
Think of me as a really fun High School Home Ec teacher, only we make recipes you'll want to eat and craft projects you'll actually want to make. This also includes how to do useful things around the house and how to take care of a small garden or your houseplants. I'm kind of like a Low Fi Martha Stewart.
I publish lots of knitting tutorials here that fill out my self published website and blog. I also love sharing projects that feature pom poms, felt crafts, and simple sewing projects.
I love cooking and baking, so naturally I share my recipes. Generally, I film the stuff I'm actually making for our dinner, so you get to see how I put it together, and how it comes out. Sometimes it's great, and sometimes it's not so good. I share my tips and tricks for making yummy food, and how to get it on the table without wearing yourself out. Hello Instant Pot and Air Fryer. How did I cook before you?? The recipe side of this started, because the ladies in my workout group were interested in how I made my steel cut oats. So I made a video to show them, and it took off. So I kept making recipes, and recently decided to make them a regular part of the channel.
This is a family friendly channel, and I appreciate you being mindful of that when commenting. I have younger viewers and moms who watch with their young children, so I like to keep this channel squeaky clean.
I hope you subscribe, and follow me each week as I share projects and food with you. I would love to build a community around living a handmade lifestyle, even if that means using a mix or two to get the goodies baked. It leaves more time for pom poms that way!
xoxo,
Pattymac
