Goalondo Steamer Chicken Curry is a #lostBengaliHeritageRecipe that was made on the Goalondo Steamer Ferries of undivided Bengal. This simple, rustic chicken curry was cooked by the boatmen or Khalasis, using basic ingredients. The chicken used in this recipe was country chicken or deshi murgi and was slow cooked in it's own juices that added a unique flavour to this curry. This recipe is close to my heart since my mother's family is from Dhaka and father's family from Comilla and both my grandfathers frequently traveled to Calcutta and must have availed the ferries from Goalondo. I am not claiming that my recipe is original since it is a lost recipe and there are bound to be variations. However I have tried to make it using the simplest of spices and minimal cooking. The curry is completely different in taste from the usual Bengali chicken curries. Give it a try and check out my other Bengali Recipe videos by clicking the link below
